EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

You’ve Got Questions - I’ve Got Answers

DO I HAVE TO HAVE PRIOR HORSE OR RIDING EXPERIENCE?

You don't! I accept riders of all levels. I've taught from brand new riders, to people who have been out of the saddle for 10+ years, to those just looking for a new barn to ride at.

DO YOU ONLY TEACH CHILDREN?

Nope! I've taught people across all ages, from 4-85.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A HORSE?

You don't! We have lesson horses here that span all levels of experience.

IF I HAVE MY OWN HORSE, CAN I TAKE LESSONS ON HIM/HER?

Absolutely! I can to travel to you within the Plano, Lucas, and Sanger areas, or outside of those areas for an extra fee.

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR/BRING?

You need to wear long pants (jeans or leggings), closed-toe shoes (ideally boots with a small heel), and a helmet (we do have lesson helmets available).

CAN WE BRING TREATS FOR THE HORSES?

Yes! Our horses love carrots, apples, and peppermints.

CAN FAMILY/FRIENDS COME WATCH MY/MY CHILD'S LESSON?

They can! As long as they're respectful of others at the barn and our animals, they're welcome to pull up a chair and observe.

DO I HAVE TO SIGN ANYTHING?

Yes - we have release waivers that everyone has to sign.

WHAT IF I OR MY CHILD IS EXTREMELY NERVOUS?

I've been there - I used to be terrified myself! I do my best to go at my students' pace; I strive to take it as slow as needed while pushing their comfort zone just enough to have one foot in, one foot out.

WHAT WILL MY FIRST LESSON LOOK LIKE?

The first lesson is usually pretty relaxed; I like to go over how to groom a horse in detail, work on getting you comfortable around horses, and learn how to be as safe as possible when handling them. We work on basics like how to hold the reins, how to steer and stop, and how to move properly with the horse. Students are started bareback whether riding English or Western to provide a more solid foundation
